Automobile Transportation

Bring Your Vehicles Along for the Ride

As you move your belongings to your new residence, you may find that you have vehicles that also need transport. Sometimes there is no easy way to move multiple cars, or you are flying to your destination. In situations like these, you can use your moving company to provide auto transport.

What Does Automobile Transport Include?

At Nilson Van & Storage, we offer packing, moving, and short-term or long-term storage options for your belongings. This includes all of your motorized means of transportation.

Common situations that call for auto transport include:

  • Multiple Vehicles – The number of vehicles outnumber the amount of available drivers, preventing all being moved in one trip.
  • Rushed Relocation – If your company wants you at a new location yesterday, then you might not have days to make the long trip. You may need to pack a bag, book a plane ticket, and let everything else follow.
  • Long Distances – Driving your car for a long distance move can mean hours and hours of driving, wear and tear on your automobile, racking up the miles on your car, and high costs in gas. Reduce this by shipping your vehicles separately.
  • Overseas – When crossing large bodies of water that prevent travel by automobile, vehicle transport can get your car to the destination.
  • Non-Road Motor Vehicles – Boats, jet skis, snowmobiles, and other vehicles that cannot be driven to your new location can be transported. This is true for ATVs, lawn mowers, tractors, and more as well.

Cost of Auto Transport

There are a lot of factors that go into determining the cost to transport your vehicles to your new residence, including:

  • Distance of transport
  • Make/model/condition of the Item (there may be an additional charge for towing and hauling if the vehicle is inoperable)
  • Weight and size
  • Additional mover services
  • Insurance coverage options

Additional Notes

Before you choose to transport your vehicle to another state or country, it is always wise to check regulations and laws that could affect your vehicle. For example, some states have different standards for vehicle safety and emissions. This could mean you need to set up a test to check your car or even sell it before moving to avoid any difficulty with it down the road (if it might not meet local regulations).

This should also be considered when you are moving a long distance and will face a very different climate. A heavy AWD vehicle might not be as necessary if you are travelling from the wintery North to milder Southern weather. In these kinds of situations, it is often better to sell your car before your move and get a vehicle that better suits your new lifestyle or location.
